    Statement on Awaremess

    Dear messfam,

The ECMC Salzburg is right around the corner. As we speak, the groupride is already underway, with the SUICMC St.Gallen still in your hearts and legs.

After long, and at times frustrating deliberation, we want to issue a statement on a topic that has been bothering us, as well as you the community, concerning this year’s ECMC. As some of you may have heard, we have barred a person from attending the event, due to their unreflected use of the race number 1488. We have gotten a lot of criticism for how we handled the situation and we sincerely want to apologize for this.

A lot of the people that gave us feedback would have liked more clear and transparent communication on our decision-making concerning this issue. It pains us to realize that some of you will not be coming to Salzburg because of this. And it pains us to realize that we have undermined some of your support for the ECMC Salzburg with the way we managed this. We understand and respect your individual and collective decisions and want you to know that we take your concerns seriously, even if it already is too late.

To be honest with all of you, we, that is the Orga-Crew for the ECMC, have been through a rough couple of months. This is mainly down to our team of organizers being too small to address all the topics and issues surrounding the ECMC with the attention they deserve. We acted as fast as we could, but we should have acted much faster on a topic with political significance to the community.

As such, we realize that people may want to hear a personal statement from those in the Orga-Team who were involved in the decision-making on this subject. We want to address this with you as part of the Open Forum.

The Awaremess coordination team is also aware of the controversies that have surrounded this event and has agreed to collect any additional feedback on neutral ground via awaremess@ecmc2025.com. This feedback will be collected and thoroughly discussed during and after the ECMC. We wish to issue a similar statement after the event, summarizing and sharing our learnings from this incident.

We want you to know that we have and are doing our best to make this an amazing, fun and memorable ECMC with the resources that we have. We hope to show all of you who are coming that Salzburg has what it takes to show the Messfam this city from its finest side, and we want everyone who will be here to feel welcome and comfortable!

And we want to make one thing very clear:

Facism, racism, sexism and homophobia of any kind have no place within our community, and have no place at the ECMC 2025!!!

    Sincerely,

    The ECMC 2025 Awaremess-Team,
    for the main organizers

    Co-create ECMC

Got something to bring to ECMC 2025? Let’s make space for it.

ECMC has always been more than races. It’s also about community, creativity, and connection. We know that every crew, collective or corner of the scene brings something different – and we want to invite you to bring that energy to Salzburg.

This is an open call to other communities, crews, clubs and collectives: if you want to host a workshop, organize a side event, set up a booth, build a chill space, or create something we haven’t thought of yet – get in touch.

We can help you plug into the existing schedule or give you the space to do your own thing independently. Whether it’s a queer ride, a zine table, a film screening, or a spontaneous session on wheels – ECMC 2025 is open to collaboration.

If it fits the spirit, we’ll try to make it fit the weekend.

Contact us with your idea – wild or humble – and we’ll find out together how to make it real. Because this event is only as strong as the people who shape it.

  • Clinch

    Clinch

One thing every ECMC has in common: the cap. It’s more than a souvenir – it’s a badge of pride, sweat, and late-night checkpoints. For 2025, we’ve teamed up with CLINCH to bring you caps that are worthy of the race.

Handmade, courier-tested, and built to last, these caps aren’t just designed to look good – they’re made for daily rides, sudden rain, and long-distance alleycat grind. CLINCH has been supporting the scene with custom gear for years, and we’re stoked to have them on board as our official cap partner.

For this year’s edition, Clinch has created two exclusive designs, each with their own flavor. Both will be available to buy on site during the event.

  • Rules in Salzburg

    Rules in Salzburg

New city, new playground – but respect stays key. Know the basics when you roll through Salzburg.

Salzburg is a beautiful and rideable city, but it’s also a residential place with tight rules. During ECMC weekend, we want to ride hard and have fun – without causing unnecessary friction with locals or police.

    Here’s the deal:

    • Don’t ride aggressively in pedestrian-only areas, especially in the old town.
    • Keep noise down after 22:00 – especially near housing spots.
    • Don’t block public pathways or hang out in front of private entrances.
    • If the police stop you, stay calm. Show respect, and you’ll usually get it back.

Open alcohol is allowed in public, but please don’t push the limits. Keep cans out of sight in family areas. Don’t trash parks or hang out loudly in front of apartments. Salzburg isn’t Berlin – and that’s ok.

Helmets aren’t required by law, but traffic rules apply – yes, even if you’re fast and brakeless. Important: fixed gear bikes without brakes are not legally compliant in Austria. Police will check for two independent brakes, and yes, they do know what brakeless looks like.

Also, riding with lights at night is highly recommended – not just for safety, but because it significantly reduces the chance of police stops.

And always: respect each other and the space. No harassment, no creep behavior, no macho posturing. We ride together.
